Professors and Students Gathered to Discuss Fostering Advanced AI Talent in the Digital Healthcare Field
Special Lectures by Dr. Cha Dong-chul (Director, Naver Healthcare Research Institute) and Woo Ju-yup (CEO, BC&Company)
The 5th Industry-Academia Collaboration Forum by the AI Convergence Innovation Talent Development Center was successfully held on October 18, 2024 (Friday), in the Graduate School Building.
Ewha Womans University received government support for the AI Convergence Innovation Talent Development Project, from the Ministry of Science and ICT and IITP in July 2022, and established the AI Convergence Major under its Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence and Software.
Professor Choi Jang-hwan, director of the AI Convergence Innovation Talent Development Center, opened the event by stating, “This forum brings together professors, industry professionals, and graduate students involved in training AI convergence master's and doctoral talent. This forum focuses specifically on the medical and bio sectors.”
The event drew a total of 112 participants, including six invited guests, six corporate representatives from four partner companies, 13 faculty members, 84 graduate students (58 from the AI Convergence Major), 17 undergraduate students, and one member of the public. During the first session, the speaker provided insights into advancements in AI convergence technologies and research trends in the medical and bio fields by sharing the NAVER case. Insights into the development of medical imaging and AI technology use cases were shared. President Kim Eun-mi emphasized the significance of the forum in her congratulatory speech by saying, “As the global demand for AI professionals grows, with countries like the US, China, and the UK making massive investments to secure top talent, it is critical for Ewha to expand research opportunities such as by hosting this kind of forum to enhance Korea’s AI competitiveness.”
Next special lecture was titled "Practical Applications of IT Technology in Healthcare" by Cha Dong-chul, and the following lecture was titled "AI-based Innovation in Medical Data: Advancing Medical Photography" by Woo Ju-yeop.

In the second session, representatives from partner companies, including CTO Kim Dong-hyun of Neurophet, Manager Ryu Hyun-gon of NVIDIA, CTO Bae Jae-gun of LG Display, and Director Jeon Jin-ho of Kakao Healthcare, engaged in panel discussions. They addressed graduate students' questions regarding internships and employment opportunities. The forum is held every April and October.
