Jieui Kang (Adviser: Jaehyeong Sim), a Ph.D. student in the AI Convergence Division, won the Grand Prize at the 2023 Furiosa AI Hackathon. The event was hosted and organized by Furiosa AI, with another co-host Elice.

The 2023 Furiosa AI Hackathon (Nov. 25th to 26th) was held to develop a model and a service using Warboy, Furiosa AI’s AI chip for vision application, at Elice Lab in Seoul. The two-day-long hackathon was a competition among ten teams of four, consisting of front-end engineers, back-end engineers, AI engineers, and project managers. Among the forty contestants were Ph.D. student Jieui Kang and master’s student SoEun Choi (Adviser: Jaehyeong Sim).

Each team implemented their ideas of service using Warboy on the first day of the hackathon, Nov. 25th (Sat), and the winners received their prize at the awarding ceremony on the second day, Nov. 26th (Sun). The Grand Prize went to the Team By Chance of Jieui Kang. Her team developed an app detecting damaged parts and their locations in rental cars. The team’s service received the Grand Prize, commended for applying YOLO-system-based detection technology to a real task inferred from Warboy AI chips.

“My teammates and I feel so happy to receive this prize. It was also an opportunity for us to learn a lot of things,” said Jieui Kang.
