Jae-in Lee, a student majoring in Earth Science at the Science Education Department won the Poster Presentation Prize as an undergraduate student at the 2023 Next-generation Geoscientist Conference of the 2023 Joint Fall Meeting of Korean Geological Societies. The event took place at BEXCO Busan from November 7th to 10th (Tue-Fri).

More than a thousand geologists at home and abroad participated in this year’s meeting to stay current with research trends. The 2023 Next-generation Geoscientist Conference was a part of this meeting: It was hosted by the Geological Society of Korea, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, and Busan Metropolitan City, and organized by the International Geological Congress 2024. Jae-in Lee (Advisor: Professor Jeonghoon Lee at Science Education Department) won the IGC 2024 Organizing Committee Award with her research based on an experimental study on the 17O variation of water during evaporation. The significance of her research is in laying a foundation for tracing back the value of the original isotope in liquid samples evaporated in a lab and showing the potential of using 17O as a new tracer to analyze water isotopes. Her research won the award with the expectation to suggest new perspectives and insight into the geology and environmental geochemistry research fields in the future. “I am so humbled and grateful to receive a prize as an undergraduate student at the Fall Meeting of Korean Geological Societies. It is such an honor for me that I could make a contribution to the IGC with my research. I hope to develop my research further and become a proud member of the Ewha community,” said Jae-in Lee.
