The Global AI Drug Discovery Center (Director: Sun Choi) has signed MOUs with prestigious corporations and research institutions at home and abroad, leading international joint research for drug discovery and nurturing interdisciplinary talents.

MOU between the Center and Boğaziçi University in Türkiye for Academic and Research Cooperation

The Global AI Drug Discovery Center (the Center) signed an MOU for academic and research cooperation with Boğaziçi University, a prestigious university in Türkiye, for international joint research for drug discovery and nurturing interdisciplinary talents, on September 28th.

Boğaziçi University is a public university in Istanbul, Türkiye, which was founded 160 years ago. The forerunner of this prestigious Turkish university is Robert College, the first American institution for higher education that was founded out of the U.S. by Cyrus Hamlin and Christopher Robert, an American missionary and a philanthropist respectively. The Turkish university provides all the lectures in English, adopting American curricula. The MOU with Boğaziçi University is especially meaningful because not only it is one of the top universities in Türkiye, but also it is the first MOU signed with a university in Türkiye. As a university emphasizing science, research, creativity, and a culture of innovation, Boğaziçi University founded the Polymer Research Center in 1989 and has carried out various research on modeling and simulations of macromolecules, with emphasis on biomolecular structure and dynamics.

MOU between the Center and the Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalizations at the Institute for Basic Science for Creating a Platform for Drug-discovery Research

The MOU for mutual cooperation with the Institute for Basic Science’s Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalizations (Director: Professor Sukbok Chang at KAIST) took place.

The Center signed an MOU for mutual cooperation in creating a platform for drug-discovery research with the Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalizations at the Institute for Basic Science on September 28th.

Both institutions will continue drug-discovery research on the basis of mutual cooperation, which allows joint research for drug discovery and technical cooperation, co-hosting academic conferences (seminars, forums, etc.), launching programs for technical support and researcher exchanges, co-utilization of research facilities and equipment.

The Global AI Drug Discovery Center has been working on the research for discovering materials for innovative drugs and explaining their mechanism by creation, elaboration, and experimental verification of a drug-discovery platform utilizing big data and AI, along with Innovative Drug-discovery Using AI project supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea. The Center has been selected as an international research partner of Microsoft Research Asia, a Beijing-based institute with one of the best technological AI research capacities, and done deep-learning research on drug discovery using AI, in addition to nurturing global interdisciplinary talents with capacities for AI-based drug-discovery research by carrying out Global Talent Nurturing project.

The MOUs signed with various institutions at home and abroad are expected to form a global system for joint research and cooperation led by Ewha Womans University, as well as leading AI drug discovery research across the world.
