In Memoriam SHSS 2023, a gathering event of faculty members at Colleges of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences concluded successfully at B161 of Ewha-POSCO Building on October 26th (Thu) at 5 p.m.

In Memoriam SHSS is an event that commemorates the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), a forerunner of Colleges of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Colleges of Natural Sciences, and professors from three colleges gather for communication and academic exchanges for interdisciplinary convergence. The colleges take turns hosting the event, and this year was College of Social Sciences’ turn.

The event took the form of a colloquium under the theme of The Miscommunication Dilemma in the Face of Social Dangers. Around sixty professors at College of Liberal Arts (Dean: Hyejung Chung), College of Social Sciences(Dean: Mi-Kyeong Cha), College of Natural Sciences (Dean: Sang-Hyuk Lee) listened to the presentation by Professor Yung Wook Kim (Division of Communication & Media) and had a time of reflection on dilemma in perspectives on dangers and solution to such dilemma.

“Many of the dangers in society – such as climate change, fine dust, and safety incidents – should be tackled by overcoming miscommunication issues,” said Professor Kim in his presentation. To this end, “the government or expert groups should ditch hierarchical communication and adopt horizontal communication and close cooperation with citizens,” he stressed. Professors at the colloquium agreed that interdisciplinary communication between liberal arts, social sciences, and natural sciences is needed to suggest a new perspective for tackling complicated dangers in modern society.
