Ewha Law School students won second place at the 13th WTO (World Trade Organization) Moot Court Competition.

The WTO Moot Court Competition is the only moot court competition related to trade law in Korea. It has been held every year since 2010 to foster manpower in the trade sector and increase exchanges between trade law experts. The 13th WTO Moot Court Competition, co-hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korean Society of International Economic Law (KSIEL), was held online on August 19 (Fri).

The competition covered whether trade restrictions imposed by a virtual neutral country on countries that had caused international armed conflicts violate the WTO agreement and whether they can be justified under WTO provisions. A total of 49 people from 15 teams of undergraduate and graduate students in Korea participated in the preliminary round, and a verbal defense competition was held for the top four teams selected through a written examination. As a result, the "I GATT YOU" team including Kim Hye-yeon, Kim Da-sol, Baek Mi-jung, and Park Jae-eun from Ewha Law School, ranked second.

Ahn Sung-il, the head of MOTIE’s New World Trade Order Strategy Office, mentioned, "It is important to cultivate young talents' trade capabilities amid diversifying trade issues. We will continue to foster prospective trade talents who will become the future leaders of the global leading trade country.”
