Surface Water Quality Management Lab gets recertified as “2021 Excellent Safety Management Laboratory”

Surface Water Quality Management Lab (SWQM) at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Ewha ELTEC College of Engineering got recertified as “2021 Excellent Safety Management Laboratory” hosted by National Research Safety Headquarters.
In order to strengthen the safety management ability of universities and laboratories and discover and expand the standard models, “Excellent Safety Management Laboratory” certification system grants certification to laboratories in science and technology fields with excellent safety management levels and activities based on the expert reviews.
Ewha Womans University had applied for certification of one out of five laboratories that needed to be recertified, and SWQM was recertified as an excellent laboratory after the screening from National Research Safety Headquarters. SWQM was certified in the field of safety environment systems, activity levels, and safety awareness of safety management officials. Ewha established a “Laboratory Safety Management Committee” under the Executive Vice President for External Affairs to ensure the safety of the laboratory, and is managing the safety of 593 laboratories in total under the department’s safety management team. Since 2010, Ewha has been designating and managing a laboratory manager through the Ewha Portal system, and has received “Excellent Safety Management Laboratory” certification several times since 2016.
