From Oct 12 to Oct 16, an online training program to share ideas on strengthening women’s leadership and capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

From October 12 (Mon) to 16 (Friday), the Ewha Institute for Development and Human Security held an online training session on strengthening women's leadership for Cambodian civil servants of three ministries.

Based on the founding philosophy of "improving women's and children's human rights," the Ewha Institute for Development and Human Security (Director: Professor Ihn-Hwi Park) suggested ways to contribute to Cambodia’s gender equality and expanding Cambodian women’s capacities in policies and businesses in the middle of the pandemic. The institute shared their accumulated knowledge and experience in the field.

The attendees of the online training program, supported by the KOICA, were 15 officials in charge of women empowerment policies at Cambodia's Ministry of Gender Equality, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Vocational Education, and the Ministry of Rural Development. Ewha Womans University conducted real-time lectures on policies regarding work-family compatibility, gender mainstreaming, and gender-based violence. Ewha and the institute worked closely with the Korean Women's Development Institute, the Korea Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, and the Women’s Human Rights Institute of Korea to support establishing a policy action plan that can actually contribute to strengthening Cambodia's women's leadership capacity.

Since its establishment in 2007, the Ewha Institute for Development and Human Security has promoted various projects to lessen poverty and support sustainable development in developing countries, based on its multidisciplinary research and education capabilities, including in international studies, development studies, and women's studies. In particular, the institute has been working with the KOICA since 2019 to carry out global training projects to improve gender equality and women's rights in developing countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Mongolia and Myanmar.

Professor Eun Mie Lim of the Department of International Studies, in charge of the project, said "Due to the COVID-19 crisis, it was inevitable to hold an online training," adding "we meticulously prepared a customized program that fits to Cambodia's policy reality and demand. We had pre-arranged meetings with Cambodian officials for the program." She also said, "we truly hope that the training program can serve as an opportunity to share Ewha Womans University's expertise in gender equality with Cambodia and to contribute to Cambodia's sustainable development and gender equality.”
