The Ewha Womans University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) achieved first place overall for the third consecutive year in the “2025 Summer Military Training.”
The ROTC conducts annual summer and winter training sessions at the Korea Army Cadet Military School located in Goesan, Chungcheongbuk-do. The “2025 Summer Military Training” took place over two sessions, from June 30 to July 25 and from July 28 to August 22, with cadets from 108 ROTC units across the nation participating.
Thirty-one cadets from Ewha Womans University’s 64th and 65th ROTC classes enhanced their combat readiness through shooting practice, guerrilla training, and night marches, while also building the military knowledge and leadership skills essential for junior officers. Competing under their universities’ names and honor, the cadets from Ewha Womans University achieved an impressive feat—first place overall for three consecutive years since 2023. This marks the first time in the history of the Korea Army Cadet Military School that a women’s university has maintained the top overall ranking for three consecutive years. Furthermore, all participating Ewha cadets ranked among the top performers, making the achievement even more meaningful.
Cadet Na-Yeon Park (Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Class of 2022), a member of the 64th class, shared her reflections on the experience: “Through healthy competition, I learned the value of fairness by seeing the results of our efforts in real time. It was also a continuous process of realizing what qualities a leader should possess within a team that emphasizes ‘us’ rather than ‘me.’” She added, “I would like to express my gratitude to the university president, the ROTC commander, and everyone in the university and ROTC community for their prayers, encouragement, and thoughtful support. This accomplishment was made possible through communication and teamwork with my peers, and we are especially grateful to uphold the reputation built by our predecessors.”
Colonel Dong-Hoon Shin, Commander of Ewha Womans University ROTC, stated, “Our cadets have achieved victory not as individuals, but together with their fellow comrades, striving to become elite junior officers who will lead the future of the Republic of Korea’s armed forces. They trained as if in real combat, adhering strictly to regulations and commitments, and as a result, we are immensely proud and grateful to have achieved first place among 108 ROTC units nationwide.”
Since the establishment of its ROTC program in 2016, Ewha Womans University has been recognized as a “Top University” for five consecutive years (2018–2021) in the ROTC University Evaluation and has received “Excellent” ratings in four consecutive ROTC Capability Assessments. These accomplishments highlight Ewha Womans University’s excellence as a leading institution for the cultivation of female military leaders.
Building on its outstanding achievements and traditions, the university’s ROTC will continue to strengthen national defense and security by fostering exemplary female officers, while also expanding career development and leadership opportunities for students. The ROTC is recruiting new cadets from among first- and second-year students every March. Further information is available athttp://ewha_rotc.ewha.ac.kr/.
