Three PhD graduates of Ewha Womans University’s Division of Communication and Media have been appointed as tenure-track professors at universities in Korea starting in the Fall 2025 semester. The newly appointed professors are Professor Sagang Jeong (Department of Journalism and Broadcasting, Glocal Campus, Konkuk University), Professor Hyewon Kang (Institute for Convergence Research in Humanities and Social Sciences & Media School, Hallym University), and Professor Lor Zhieh (Department of Media and Communication, Pusan National University).
Professor Sagang Jeong earned her BA in French Language and Literature and Journalism & Broadcasting (2005), MA in Journalism and Broadcasting (2008), and PhD in Communication and Media (2017) from Ewha Womans University. She has served as a lecturer at Ewha and a visiting professor at Kyung Hee University. Her research focuses on visual culture and discourse, changes in the media environment and narrative, and gender representation in media. Reflecting on her time at Ewha, she said, “At Ewha, I learned that scholarship is not merely an object of study, but a process of constructing meaning. I also gained the ability to view the world from multiple perspectives, which has been foundational to my identity as a researcher.”
Professor Hyewon Kang holds a BA (2008) and MA (2011) in Journalism and Broadcasting and a PhD in Communication and Media (2018) from Ewha. She has served as a lecturer at Ewha, a senior researcher, and a visiting professor at Sungkyunkwan University. Building on her graduate studies in popular culture, narrative, and genre theory, her research explores storytelling on digital platforms and the ways content IP expands its influence through user interaction. She reflected, “Through opportunities such as participating in a student webzine, hands-on production courses, and internships, I grew as both a researcher and educator. I hope to continue developing as a scholar who can support and inspire Ewha students and alumni.”
Professor Lor Zhieh earned her BA (2012) and MA (2014) from St. Cloud State University in the U.S. and her PhD in Communication and Media (2024) from Ewha. She previously served as a research professor at Ewha, focusing on digital journalism, news consumption behavior, and political communication, and has recently expanded her research to political participation and misinformation issues. “My time at Ewha provided me with invaluable academic training, opportunities to engage in research projects, and international conference experiences,” she shared. “These experiences have shaped my scholarly perspective, and I aim to continue conducting globally engaged research based on what I learned at Ewha.”
The Division of Communication and Media celebrates these appointments as a testament to its academic excellence and its commitment to nurturing scholars who make meaningful contributions across diverse fields of study.
