Professor Youngmin You of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, awarded the “The Young Inorganic Chemist Award” by the Korean Chemical Society. The Award is given to a chemist under the age of 45 who has achieved his or her own independent research field in Korea.

Professor You has actively researched phosphorescent transition-metal complexes.

His research mainly focuses on designing new transition metal complexes based on transition-metals like iridium, platinum, osmium. It ultimately aims to synthesize and to draw out excellent phosphorescent transition-metal complexes.

He was “The Young Inorganic Chemist Award” in recognition of his research’s originality and significance on his study. His research not only simply presents materials but also aims to directly identify the behavior that occurs in an extremely short time of optical pumping, thereby contributing to a better understanding of optical behavior, and furthermore, suggesting the design of complexes based on it.

Since his appointment at Ewha Womans University, Professor You has published 40 SCI papers over the past five years. His papers have been published in several outstanding journals such as < Nature Communications>, <the Journal of American Chemical Society>, <Angewandte Chemie International Edition>, <Chemical Science> and <Advanced Materials>. In 2018, he was awarded won ‘The Distinguished Lectureship Award’ by ‘The Chemical Society of Japan’, and was selected as the best professor of research performance at Ewha Womans University. He was also selected as the ‘new fellow’ of Ewha Womans University in 2020. In addition, He was the first and youngest research director for the project of the ‘Samsung Science & Technology Foundation’ and he has been assigned for more projects in recognition of his excellence. Professor You’s research group has actively conducted industry-academic cooperation research with companies like Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, and LG Display since its research outcome is highly correlated to industrial activities.
