The Power of Education on Influencing the Improvement of Women’s Potential

Alumna Kim Ok-sun[u1] (Ewha graduate in education, 1979), who served as Dean of the University of Suwon International College while training students over her long career, pledged to donate her inheritance to Ewha. At the donation agreement ceremony, Kim said, “My school days at Ewha made me keenly aware of the power of education to enhance women’s potential. I hope that Ewha’s education, which has remarkably improved Korean women’s capacity, can be delivered to any place in need of the power to provide women around the world with opportunities to develop and enhance their capabilities.”
President Eun Mee Kim remarked, “Ewha has been able to fulfill its role as a platform leading the efforts toward a sustainable society in the global arena because the school has its roots in the Christian values of empathy and tolerance, as alumna Kim Ok-sun has shown us. We appreciate how Kim shares the calling of Ewha through her legacy gift.”
The ceremony was attended by President Kim, Executive Vice President for External Affairs Kyung-Shik Shin, Vice President for Office of University Relations and Development Hyun-Jung Yu, and Associate Dean of University Relations and Development Nam-Kyong Choi, all of whom extended their gratitude towards Kim. Since the bequest was made through a Living Trust with Hana Bank, which signed a business agreement with Ewha Womans University last year, officials from Hana Bank attended the ceremony as well.
With increasing social awareness of donation through bequests, Ewha is taking the lead in fulfilling its spirit of sharing and service by spreading the culture of legacy gifts. Its efforts include establishing the Advisory Committee for Donation of Inheritance and Ewha Womans University Law Center for Donation of Inheritance composed of internal and outside experts in inheritance donation-related laws and taxes and signing business agreements with related financial institutions.
