Discussion Held with Global Leaders on UN Sustainable Development Goals

김은미 총장, 반기문 전 유엔사무총장, 린다 토머스-그린필드 유엔 주재 미국대사On Tuesday, April 16, a roundtable discussion on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) was held at Ewha Archives, featuring President Eun Mee Kim of Ewha Womans University, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

The event was made possible by Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s decision to visit Ewha to meet the next generation of female leaders in Korea as part of her trip to Korea to engage in discussions on alliance cooperation within the UN Security Council. Under the vision of “A Creative and Innovative Platform Leading to a Sustainable Society,” Ewha Womans University has been strengthening the global capacity of students through various programs to foster global women leaders, which has attracted opinion makers and heads of state worldwide to visit and connect with the next generation of women leaders developing at Ewha.

‘UN 지속가능발전목표’ 주제로 글로벌 리더들과 좌담회 개최The discussion was held at Ewha Archives in the form of a fireside chat and moderated by President Eun Mee Kim. In her address on the UN SDGs, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored the need for cooperation among countries beyond borders and national interests, while former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted that Korea is currently far behind on the SDGs and must continue to work toward their fulfilment.

During the Q&A session, students from the Department of Political Science & International Relations and the Division of International Studies sought advice on women’s leadership and solutions to the issues facing the earth and humanity. Both leaders encouraged the students to take ownership and responsibility towards the world as key players of the future.
