Welcome Program Held for Successful International Applicants, “The First Ewha Pre-Orientation”

The International Student Affairs Team (ISAT) under the Office of International Affairs (Vice president: Lee Hai-young) held the welcome program titled “Ewha Pre-Orientation (EPO)” for successful international applicants as an online event on June 24 (Thursday).

Held for the first time this year, the EPO is an event for international students to experience life at Ewha in advance before their official admission through lectures and conversations with senior students. The event was available online through Zoom for successful applicants from 25 countries and attended by more than 200 participants across the world, demonstrating their strong enthusiasm.

In the welcome speech, Vice President Lee Hai-young gave words of encouragement, as saying: “We sincerely congratulate and welcome your admission to Ewha,” adding, “We prepared various sessions so that you can experience Ewha’s excellent educational environment and its beautiful campus in advance.” She also added, “I hope this event will guide you to enjoy the precious experience of studying abroad to achieve your dreams.”

The welcome event included various programs including a “Sneak peek into Ewha lectures” provided by Ewha faculty members, “Online campus tour,” “Ewha stories from campus friends” to tell incoming students about the campus life and the job search, and an online Q&A session titled “Conversation with Ewha students.”

The “Sneak peek into Ewha lectures” consisted of lectures titled “Reading epics in the digital era,” “MBTI personality testing,” and “Chinese performing arts” in Korean, English, and Chinese respectively. Prospective students chose to listen to lectures that they were interested in, regardless of their major, and were able to experience a preview of lectures at Ewha. Next, in “Ewha stories from campus friends,” mentors consisting of international students and alumnae from Ewha spoke about ways to enjoy the life of studying abroad and employment-related stories, which was received favorably. In “Conversation with Ewha students,” teams of two or three international students offered consultations in Korean, English, and Chinese, and students spent quality time in asking and answering questions about academic affairs such as credits, lectures, and scholarships.

With the aim to develop an education innovation platform to respond to the digital transformation under the vision of “A Creative and Innovative Platform Leading to a Sustainable Society,” Ewha is enhancing a wide range of support systems to foster global women leaders. ISAT recruits excellent students and offers multifaceted support for international students to grow as leaders who contribute to society. Through diverse programs including the EPO, a welcome program for successful international applicants held for the first time this year, ISAT plans to support excellent international students so that they can grow as women leaders who will make their mark on the global stage.
