“Blossom Ewha Weekly” Held to Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of The Ewha Weekly

A ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of The Ewha Weekly was held in the afternoon of March 18 at the ECC Lee San-bong Hall, providing an opportunity to recall the six-decade-long history of the student newspaper and promise to work for further development. Participants in the event included President Kim Sun-Uk; Chang Myong-Sue, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Ewha Womans University; current and former professors who served as editor-in-chief and retired journalists who have contributed to the development of The Ewha Weekly; and over 150 Ewha students.
The ceremony also served as a venue to award a plaque to Ewha graduates selected as winners of the 2nd Pride of Ewha Weekly Awards. The award is given to retired journalists who heightened the honor of the paper through their outstanding achievements in society. This year, a total of eight Ewha graduates were selected as recipients. There was a screening of videos such as “Ewha Weekly History” that shed light on the newspaper’s past, which received a positive response from attendees.
As a student medium representing Ewha Womans University, The Ewha Weekly was first published on February 12, 1954, with an aim to enhance and develop the level of student culture and life, as well as to build sound public opinions by reporting and commenting on a variety of news within the university. As a pioneer in the tradition of university media, having published 1,469 issues, The Ewha Weekly has become a media outlet highly trusted by the Ewha family based on its pursuit of excellence in journalism.
