The opening of Public Diplomacy Center

On February 25, 2014, Ewha Womans University established the Public Diplomacy Center and held the opening ceremony and Public-Private Partnership Workshop, an open workshop for public diplomacy. The center is first-of-its-kind institute in Korea implemented at a university to conduct specialized research on public diplomacy.
The center is expected to play a range of roles based on an MOU concluded with the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its tasks include research on the diagnosis and assessment of current public diplomacy in Korea; provision of educational and training programs; increasing awareness of public diplomacy and improving networking; strengthening diplomatic capabilities by suggesting Korean models for public diplomacy; and improving the national image through service and sharing.
Ewha opened a course titled “Public Diplomacy” in 2008 as a regular part of the curriculum for related undergraduate and graduate programs. By producing talented students in related fields, Ewha was selected by the Korea Foundation in 2011 as the joint institution to hold the Korean-German Forum, which helped Ewha to enhance its capability for fieldwork activities. In 2012, Ewha also proposed and successfully completed the creation of the Korean-German Junior Forum to stimulate exchanges between teenagers of the two countries. The forum served to nurture public diplomacy activities for the subsequent generations, the most important target of public diplomacy.
