President Kim Sun-Uk Visits the US to Strengthen Global Cooperation and Ewha’s Network

President Kim SunukDuring October, President Kim Sun-Uk visited leading universities in the US to promote international cooperation and strengthen Ewha’s global network.

 

On October 13, President Kim attended the inauguration of Peter Salovey as Yale University’s 23rd president. President Kim and her counterpart at Yale discussed collaboration between the two universities in the field of global education including women’s education. Yale invited President Kim Sun-Uk as a special guest, thinking highly of Ewha Womans University, one of the top women’s universities in the world aiming to become the global hub for women’s education.

 

On October 22, President Kim signed an MOU with Cornell University and agreed to a faculty exchange and sharing of educational and academic resources. Under the agreement, Ewha will send a faculty member to Cornell each semester to lecture on topics related to Korean Studies including Korean politics, economics, and women’s studies. In addition to signing the agreement, President Kim Sun-Uk gave a special lecture at Cornell University Law School and discussed the university-level collaboration with the staff of Cornell related to various research areas and educational programs.

Through the only joint partnership in Korea with Harvard University, Ewha is operating the Ewha-Harvard Summer School, and Ewha-Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP), an exchange student program. Likewise, Ewha is expanding exchanges with other Ivy League schools and many other leading universities in the US.

 

Meanwhile, from October 17 to 28 in Washington D.C., President Kim took part in the 44th meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Foundation for Ewha Womans University and the 2013 plenary session of Ewha’s North America Alumnae Association. On the 18th, the president was invited to the Korea Society to give a lecture. President Kim also met Steve Knapp, the president of George Washington University on October 24. Keeping up with her busy schedule in the US, the president strengthened Ewha’s position as the global hub for women’s education.
