President Kim Sun-Uk Participates in the 150th Anniversary of the Solvay Group, Ewha’s Global Industry-Academic Cooperation Partner

Ewha Womans University President Kim Sun-Uk participated on October 9th in the 150th anniversary celebration of the Solvay Group, the university’s industry-academic cooperation partner in Brussels, Belgium. To celebrate the 150th year of its foundation, the Solvay Group invited almost 1,000 partners around the world including the king and queen of Belgium. President Kim was the only Korean who had received a direct invitation from the group.
In 2011, Ewha Womans University signed an industry-academic cooperation deal with the Solvay Group and established a global R&D center regarding specialty chemicals on the Ewha campus. Solvay Group’s investment in Ewha amounts to 21.5 million dollars, and the establishment of Solvay’s global R&D center in a Korean university is the first case of its kind and considered to be a successful example of industry-academic cooperation.
During this visit, President Kim shared opinions with the Solvay Group on the continuous expansion of industry-academic cooperation, and reconfirmed the will for further collaboration on nurturing female scientists and promoting research and education for the Solvay Group and Ewha Womans University.
