Leading new research paradigm by merging chemistry, pharmacology, and life science
Ewha has newly established the Department of Bioinspired Science. The Department of Bioinspired Science is a department of masters and doctors degree in the graduate school. The department aims to foster future talents armed with inter-disciplinary knowledge on science. It will concentrate on education based on natural science as well as practical application on disease and aging by merging research fields of chemistry, pharmacology, and life science.
The establishment of the department is a result of the BioRedox System Fusion Research Team's being selected for the WCU(World Class University) project. WCU project is a project run by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to nurture universities into internationally competitive schools. 17.5 billion won will be supported to build a high-end science hall, give scholarships to all students, and provide research rooms for visiting scholars for the next 5 years.
Many of the top-notch professors in the field will be teaching in the Department of Bioinspired Science. The faculty includes Kenneth D. Karlin, an authority of abiochemistry, Joan S. Valentine, a renowned bioinorganic chemist, Sason Shaik, a computational chemist, Shunichi fukuzumi, a physicist and organic chemist, HanJoong Jo, an active-oxygen researcher, and Distinguished Professors of Ewha : Rhee Sue-Goo, Nam Won-woo, Choy Jin-Ho.
