International Conference on Climate Risk Management in the Financial Sector Jointly Held by Ewha and the Financial Supervisory Service
Ewha Womans University partnered with the Financial Supervisory Service to host an international conference under the theme of “Next-Gen Climate Risk Management with AI and Tech” at the Lee Sam-bong Hall of the ECC building on September 11, 2025. Under the aim to discuss climate risk management strategies for the financial sector in the era of climate crisis and AI innovation, the conference was attended by President Hyang-Sook Lee, Governor Lee Chanjin of the Financial Supervisory Service, representatives from the Korea Meteorological Administration, global financial institutions, and research institutes. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Chairperson Yoon Han-hong of the National Policy Committee at the National Assembly, and the Ambassadors of France and the Netherlands to Korea delivered congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony.
President Hyang-Sook Lee emphasized the importance of collaboration among academia, industry, government, and citizens, stating that “Ewha Womans University is nurturing talents to lead the AI era while strengthening the foundation for climate action.” During the conference sessions, representatives from the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR), Moody’s, HSBC, and the Korea Meteorological Administration gave presentations on European climate crisis responses, AI-driven climate intelligence, climate risk management by global financial institutions, and domestic climate projections. Following this, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, BloombergNEF, ING, and the Financial Supervisory Service discussed transition finance, energy transition, the role of financial institutions, and supervisory directions, exploring avenues for international cooperation.
Accompanying events for university students included the “Future Finance A.I. Challenge” and the “Next-Gen Recruitment Fair.” Over 130 teams nationwide gathered to participate in the challenge, with 10 teams advancing to the finals after preliminary rounds. Participants presented ideas for AI-based financial services, and five teams were awarded prizes, including a total of KRW 28 million and exemptions from document screening and coding tests when applying for ICT positions at KB Kookmin Bank. The Recruitment Fair featured 18 financial institutions, including KB Kookmin Bank, and drew over 600 students, who gained insights into desired talent profiles, recruitment processes, and interview preparation tips.
Jointly hosted by Ewha Womans University and the Financial Supervisory Service since 2019, the international conference has served as a platform to explore the future of green finance in the era of climate change and carbon neutrality, discussing strategic responses and emerging opportunities for growth in the financial sector. At the same time, it provides opportunities to support the entry of youths into the financial industry and the discovery of future finance ideas, contributing to the establishment of a sustainable financial ecosystem.
