World Within Ewha: 2025 Ewha International Summer College Concludes Successfully
The 2025 Ewha International Summer College (EISC), hosted by the Office of International Affairs over the summer vacation, concluded successfully with the participation of over 700 students from 16 countries. Launched in 1971 as Korea’s first summer school, the EISC has offered a comprehensive academic program in addition to Korean cultural activities for students from around the world, building on its more than 50-year history. This year’s EISC took place over a four-week Session 1 (June 27-July 24) and a two-week Session 2 (August 4-18).
At Session 1, some 350 students from 16 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, and China, took various major courses in disciplines such as Arts, Design, Media, Psychology, Korean Studies, and Communications, as well as Korean language, all taught in English by Ewha faculty members. Participants experienced the vibrance of Korean culture through diverse field programs, including K-pop dance classes, a DMZ security tour, attendance at professional baseball games and performances, and a Han River cruise. In particular, Ewha students also participated in classes and extracurricular activities through the summer semester, and actively interacted with international students.
Session 2 brought together over 330 students from 19 countries, who attended special lectures on Korean Studies and Korean language courses organized by proficiency level, developing a comprehensive perspective on Korean politics, society, culture and arts. Through lectures and discussions, the participants had a chance to gain a deeper understanding of Korea. They also took part in volunteer trips and hands-on experiences encompassing traditional and contemporary culture. In addition, students from Ewha’s volunteer program, “Peace Buddies,” were matched with each group to help the participants adjust to campus life and foster cultural exchange and friendship, ultimately boosting participant satisfaction.
Youngjeen Cho, Vice President for International Affairs, emphasized the program’s significance by stating, “The EISC is not simply a short-term learning program, but a global learning community where students from around the world learn from and interact with one another.” Through the program, Ewha hopes that students from Korea and abroad will engage in experiences that integrate academics and culture, expand global networks, and grow into future leaders. Ewha also plans to continue expanding its global educational platform that bridges knowledge and culture.
