Ewha boasts 39 faculty members listed among the “world’s top 2 percent of scientists” who have continually advanced global research based on their exceptional research capabilities. Among them are eight Distinguished Professors including Professor Andreas Heinrich of the Department of Physics, a world-renowned researcher in quantum mechanics; Professor Wonwoo Nam of the Department of Chemistry & Nanoscience, a leading researcher in bioinorganic chemistry; Professor Juyoung Yoon of the Department of Chemistry & Nanoscience, who has been named among the world’s top 1 percent of highly-cited researchers (HCR) for 11 consecutive years; Professor Goo Taeg Oh of the Department of Life Science (Graduate School), a distinguished scholar in molecular developmental genetics; Professor In Kyoon Lyoo of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Graduate School), a prominent authority in brain and cognitive sciences; Professor Kwangmeyung Kim of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Graduate School), a representative researcher in the field of nanodrug delivery systems; Professor Chang-Hoi Ho of the Department of Climate and Energy Systems Engineering, Korea’s representative leading climate scientist; and Professor Yeomin Yoon of the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, a leading researcher in the field of water environment management.
The Office of Faculty & Academic Affairs commissioned and installed plaques in the faculty offices of professors selected as Distinguished Professors, Ewha Fellows, and Emerging Ewha Fellows. The design for these plaques, which display the names of the selected professors and the duration of their designation, reflect feedback gathered from the researchers themselves during a luncheon hosted by President Hyang-Sook Lee. This initiative aims to visually highlight the prestige of Ewha’s exceptional researchers and to promote their achievements both within and outside the university. The Office of Faculty & Academic Affairs stated, “The installation of these plaques goes beyond a mere symbolic gesture as a tangible recognition to convey our deep respect and encouragement for their outstanding research accomplishments.” They added, “We anticipate this recognition will have a positive impact on attracting top-tier graduate students and further motivating faculty members in their academic pursuits.”
Under the vision of “Ewha Leading the Great Transformation through Inclusive Innovation,” Ewha is dedicated to creating a world-class research environment and enhancing its global competitiveness by fostering leading “first-mover” researchers and establishing the “Ewha Global Excellence Program” to strengthen international joint research.
