Ewha Holds the 2023 Seoul Symposium for the Canadian Women-only Business Mission to South Korea and Thailand
The 2023 Seoul Symposium for the Canadian Women-only Business Mission to South Korea and Thailand, the global network between Korean and Canadian women entrepreneurs, was successfully held at Lee Sam-bong Hall of the ECC building on November 30, 2023 (Thu.).
The symposium was co-hosted by Ewha and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada to support women entrepreneurs’ empowerment through promoting ties and cooperation, and global solidarity. The symposium, under the theme of “Women Entrepreneurs Cooperation and International Trade Innovation,” was attended by around 160 female business leaders, scholars, public officials, and students, including President Eun Mee Kim of Ewha Womans University, CEO Soo-Yeon Choi of the Korean tech giant Naver, Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea H.E. Tamara Mawhinney, and Chief Trade Commissioner and Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada Sara Wilshaw.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) is a non-profit research organization that focuses on enhancing Canada’s relations with countries in the Asia-Pacific region by providing their research findings and policy proposals for governments and businesses and by connecting stakeholders in the private and public sectors. This year, APF Canada has selected South Korea and Thailand among Asian countries, and its Business Mission attended the Seoul Symposium held at Ewha on November 30, 2023 (Thu.), following the Bangkok Symposium in Thailand on November 27, 2023 (Mon.), to discuss bilateral and regional trade issues, gender inclusion in the economy with the goal of facilitating women’s economic progress, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The symposium began with a welcome speech by President Eun Mee Kim, introductory remarks by Vice-President Christine Nakamura of APF Canada, and welcome speech videos by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, and Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development of Canada Mary Ng. This was followed by conversations with CEO Soo-Yeon Choi of Naver, and Canadian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea H.E. Tamara Mawhinney, under the theme of a “New Generation of Tech Leadership.” During the conversation, the speakers shared their brilliant and interesting perspectives on the new generation of female leadership and the tech industry ecosystem in Korea and Canada. In addition, a panel discussion addressed the topics of trade policies and support for female business leaders in both Korea and Canada.
