Ewha Held Its 133th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony

Ewha’s 133th anniversary commemoration ceremony was held at the Welch-Ryang Auditorium on May 31 with more than 3,000 people celebrating the event.

In the president address, President Kim Heisook said that Ewha will try to exalt its status as a research university by supporting initiative convergence tasks, encouraging convergence research, and establishing interdisciplinary graduate studies. She showed her determination by adding, “We make various disciplines blend and communicate with one another, which will cultivate the abilities to integrate, produce up-to-date knowledge of the digital era, and eventually nurture female workforce.”


In the ceremony, official commendations were given to 98 long-serviced faculty members. And the 17th Pride of Ewha Awards was presented to Yu Jung-geun (English Language & Literature major, class of ’67), the former president of the Korean Red Cross, and Shin Hei-soo (English Language & Literature major, class of ’72), the standing representative of the Korean Center for United Nations Human Rights Policy. Professor Shin Dong-wan in Statistics of the College of Natural Science and professor Ha Eun-hee in Medicine of the College of Medicine were awarded the Ewha Academic Achievement Awards, which are given to faculty members who contribute to the development of study and the university by obtaining excellent research outcomes.
