-  Abstract  -

The historical response to survival against global changes such as climate change, food problems, and resource depletion, the harmony and coexistence of biological diversity and cultural diversity, and sustainability are very important keywords for human future survival. The ocean is evaluated as the Earth's last space for development. However, global environmental change is no exception to the oceans and islands, and islands in particular lack the ability to actively cope with many environmental changes occurring within a limited space. In addition, due to the lack of resilience in many areas, it shows many socio-cultural weaknesses. A new paradigm for island and ocean-related climate environment, socioeconomic, natural environment, historical culture, biological culture, various knowledge and information of policy development research, sustainability of islands and oceans and international maritime culture network obtained from the world island society The preservation and transmission of tangible and intangible resources, and the philosophy and ideas of humanities on the islands and oceans will play a role as a 'future knowledge asset' for the survival of mankind that can adapt to the climate crisis. The island is a miniature version of the Earth, and the future of the island is directly connected to the survival of mankind. Long-preserved terrestrial ecosystems are very stable, with their own biota. Islands are likewise isolated for long periods of time, and when ecosystems are preserved, very unique biota emerges. This island's biodiversity is uniquely determined by the island's climate, geology, and water quality. After entering the island, the islanders have lived using various biological resources on the island. The characteristics of the soil were identified and cultivated, and fishing was also conducted according to the characteristics of the sea. As such, the characteristics of the island and its surrounding sea environment played a very important role in the development of cultural diversity of the island. The agenda of “Strengthening biocultural diversity and traditional ecological knowledge in the Asia-Pacific island region”, which I worked with support from the Ministry of Environment and submitted it to the World Conservation Congress (WCC) held in Jeju in 2012, was adopted as a resolution (IUCN Resolution 5.115), ‘ Islandness’ can be seen as the result of the focus of the world's attention.
