육성빈 교수(PhD, University of California, Santa Barbara)는 이화여자대학교 커뮤니케이션‧미디어학부에서 메시지 처리와 설득 이론을 연구하고 있다. 실험, 계산 기반 분석(computational methods), fMRI, 시선추적(eye tracking) 등 심리생리학적 방법을 활용하여 설득 효과와 도덕적 판단을 이끄는 메커니즘을 규명하고자 한다. 학제 간 연구를 지향하며, 정교한 방법론을 바탕으로 이론적 발전을 이루고 이를 커뮤니케이션‧미디어 문제 해결에 적용하는 “이론–방법–실천(Theory–Method–Practice) 삼각형”을 핵심 연구 철학으로 삼는다. 석학 및 학생 연구자들과의 협업을 통해 엔터테인먼트 콘텐츠, 건강 커뮤니케이션, 인간–기계 상호작용 등 새로운 미디어 환경을 분석하고, 책임 있는 미디어 이용을 촉진하여 커뮤니케이션 연구가 사회적 가치 창출에 기여할 수 있도록 힘쓰고 있다. 육 교수는 UC Santa Barbara에서 우수 강의상을 수상했으며, International Communication Association을 비롯한 국제학회에서 연구 우수성을 인정받아 다수의 수상 실적을 보유하고 있다.

Sungbin Youk (PhD, University of California, Santa Barbara) is an assistant professor in the Division of Communication and Media, where he studies media message processing and persuasion theories. His research mainly investigates the mechanisms behind persuasive effects and moral judgment using experimental, computational, and psychophysiological methods, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and eye tracking. Committed to interdisciplinary inquiry, he advances communication scholarship through what he calls the “theory–method–practice triangle,” which emphasizes theoretical contributions grounded in rigorous methodologies and applied to resolving real-world communication issues. For instance, in collaboration with colleagues and students, he examines entertainment content, health communication, and human–machine interaction, striving to promote more informed and responsible media engagement and to ensure that communication research meaningfully contributes to societal well-being. He has been recognized with teaching awards at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and research awards at international conferences, including those organized by the International Communication Association.
