Professor Lyoo is a recognized researcher in stress resilience and posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Lyoo’s primary research has focused on brain mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders using non-invasive imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging. He has published over one hundred and eighty papers in peer-reviewed journals including high-profile journals, which have broadened perspectives on identifying the populations that are more vulnerable to psychiatric disorders.
In his decades-long career as a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, his enthusiasm slowly shifted from studying mental disorders to establishing boundaries between normality and disorder conditions. These experiences have expanded his research areas, including drug dependence, mood disorders, aging and geriatric conditions.
He deeply appreciates a number of grant supports and awards from US NIH, Stanley Medical Research Institute, Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, and Korean governmental organizations.
