So-Yeon Park specializes in drug discovery grounded in disease pathophysiology, pursuing phenotype-driven drug discovery that uses organoid models to identify therapeutic targets capable of reversing disease phenotypes. She earned her B.S. in Pharmacy at Ewha Womans University and completed an integrated M.S./Ph.D. program at its Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, with doctoral work on the mechanisms of radioresistance based on bioinformatics. She subsequently served as a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant professor at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) and as a senior researcher at the Center for Genome Engineering, Institute for Basic Science (IBS), where she conducted organoid gene-engineering research. She joined the College of Pharmacy at Ewha Womans University in 2024. Her research centers on organoid-based target identification, drug screening, and the mechanisms of cancer metastasis and therapy resistance. Notably, she developed an anti-cancer peptide targeting Dysadherin—a novel biomarker linked to poor prognosis in colorectal cancer—elucidating its mechanism of action and securing granted patents (Theranostics, IF 15.9; top 3.1% in Medicine, Research & Experimental), and she defined the role of DCLK1 kinase activity in driving cancer recurrence using AI-based structural analyses and genome-engineered mouse models. Her broader work, including aberrant lipid-raft signaling in therapy-resistant cancer cell subpopulations and drug repositioning for recurrent and metastatic cancer, has appeared in leading international journals. More recently, she has extended her work to therapeutic targeting of the link between cellular senescence and autophagy, showing that inhibiting the senescence factor p16INK4a restores autophagy and alleviates pulmonary fibrosis—findings published in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy (IF 81.2; top 0.3% in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, 2025 JCR). She has also examined the molecular basis of cell competition in intestinal stem cell homeostasis and disease in Experimental and Molecular Medicine, and now focuses on drug-discovery methodologies that begin with the pathophysiology of intractable diseases such as colorectal cancer, intestinal inflammation, and pulmonary fibrosis.
