Department of Mathematics/Scranton Honors Program
Professor Yoonjin Lee received her Ph.D. degree at Brown University in the area of Number Theory under the supervision of Prof. Michael Rosen. She worked as a professor at several universities in US and Canada such as Arizona State University, University of Delaware, Smith College, and Simon Fraser University for eight years. Currently, she is a professor of the Mathematics department (since 2007) of Ewha Womans University, which is the largest women institution nationwide and it is her alma mater. Currently, she is also in charge of a director of Ewha Institute of Mathematical Sciences since 2022. She worked as the Vice President for Admissions of Ewha Womans University (2017-2021). She is currently an editor of "Discrete Mathematics" (SCI journal) and also a managing editor of the "Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society" (SCI journal). She also worked as a chief-in-editor of "Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society" (SCI journal) (2017-2018). Currently, she is the 20th president of the Korean Women in Mathematical Sciences, and she worked as a vice president of the Korean Women in Mathematical Sciences (2022-2023). She also served as an Advisory board member of the Korean Ministry of Education. Furthermore, she worked as a leader of BK 21 plus team ("Mathematical Science Team for Global Women Leaders") (2013-2019) and as chair of the Math department and Head of Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (2011-2013, 2024-current) at Ewha Womans University. In 2018, she was awarded "The 7th Award for the S-OIL Excellent Research Paper", which was offered by KAST (The Korean Academy of Science and Technology), and she received the "Best Teacher Award" from Ewha Womans University in 2009, "2022 Pride of Ewha" Award in 2022, and "Award for Excellence in Research Grant" in 2023 and 2024. Her primary research interests are in Number Theory and Algebraic Coding Theory, and she has published about 120 research papers in SCI journals and holds a patent on"DNA code generation method based on RSD codes".
