현동훈 교수는 자연과학대학 생명과학과 소속 교수로 활성산소 연구의 권위자다. 현 교수는 영국 King’s College London에서 박사학위를 받았으며, 미국 National Institute on Aging에서 post-doctoral fellowship을 마쳤다. 현 교수는 2007년부터 이화여대에 부임했고, 15년 이상 노화 방지 및 퇴행성뇌질환(노인성치매, 파킨슨병) 치료를 위한 연구를 진행하고 있으며, 현재까지 30여편의 논문들을 저명한 국제학술지 <PNAS>, <Ageing Res. Rev.>, <J. Neurochem.>에 발표했다. 현 교수는 (1) 미토콘드리아 및 세포막 항산화효소에 의한 산화환원 및 에너지대사 조절, (2) 식이제한에 의한 노화 지연, (3) 식물생리활성물질을 이용한 노인성치매 예방 및 치료법 연구에 전념하고 있다.
