임동선 교수는 사범대학 언어병리학과 소속 교수이며, 1급 언어장애전문가이자 CCC-SLP(American Speech-Language Hearing Association)로 한국과 미국에서 공인받은 임상 전문가이다. 미국 미네소타 대학에서 박사학위를 받고 스탠포드 대학에서 연구원으로 활동, 미국 노스웨스턴대학 교수로 활동하였다. 아동언어발달과 이중언어 분야에 대한 연구를 활발히 진행하고 있으며 JSLHR(Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research) 등 권위있는 국내외 학술지에 현재까지 100편 이상의 논문을 발표하였다. 2014년 미국 CSCW(Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing)에 게재한 논문이 Best Paper Award를 수상하는 등 이공 분야와의 융합 연구에도 활발히 참여하고 있으며, 연구 분야에서의 꾸준한 성과로 2014년 본교의 우수연구교수로 선정되었다.
