김우성 교수는 약학대학(원) 약학과 소속 교수로서 multidrug-resistant bacteria (다제내성균)에 효과적인 항생제 개발에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있다. 서울대학교 화학생물공학부에서 학사와 석사를 마친 후, 미국 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute에서 화학생물공학 박사학위를 받았다. 그 후, Rhode Island Hospital/Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University의 Division of Infectious Diseases에서 박사후 연구원 과정을 수행하였다. 그 동안 C. elegans (예쁜꼬마선충) 감염모델을 이용하여 다수의 항생물질을 개발하였으며, 이에 대한 연구결과들을 Nature를 비롯한 다수의 저명 국제학술지에 게제 및 국제특허로 등록하였다.
