김동수 교수는 환경·식품공학부 소속으로 환경화학 및 수처리, 그리고 폐기물처리 및 재활용 분야의 연구를 수행해 오고 있다. 1992년 Virginia Tech에서 박사학위를 받았으며 국내외 학술지에 180 여편의 논문을 발표하였다. 환경공학분야의 저명 SCI 저널인 <Journal of Environmental Science and Health>의 Editorial Board Member로 수 년간 활동하였으며, 자원리싸이클링학회의 학술상과 대한환경공학회의 논문상 등을 수상하였다.
