A doctoral student at the Department of Social Welfare, Su-Kyung Oh won the Excellent Research Poster Prize at the Korean Association of Child Studies’ spring conference this year with her team – Dr. Eunbyeor Sophie Yang at the NYC Housing Preservation & Development, Professor Seohyun Kim at the Department of Social Welfare at Jeonbuk National University, and Professor Ick-Joong Chung, Oh’s faculty advisor. The prizes were awarded to five teams after a thorough evaluation, following the first longlisting of thirty-eight teams.

The Korean Association of Child Studies’ spring conference took place at ECC Theater & Daesan Gallery at Ewha Womans University on April 29th (Sat.), hosted by the Korean Association of Child Studies and the Korea Childcare Promotion Institute. This conference served as a venue for rich scholarly exchanges for enhancing children’s development and competence in the conventional environment as well as the digital environment under the theme of Broadening the Horizon of Children’s Environment: Place, Digital, Relationships.

The research team found the discrimination against children amid proliferating “no-kids zone” problematic and conducted research on an Analysis of Social Perception of No-kids Zones Using Big Data. In this research, the team found out that no-kids zones are related to discrimination against and hate towards children, and suggested what to do for better perceptions about children, improvement of children’s rights, and qualitative growth of the social community.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude for my good teammates and my faculty advisor,” said Su-Kyung Oh. “I will do my best on research so that children can live more happily in a welcoming environment,” she added.
