Hosted by the Social and Economic Cooperation Course (Chief Professor Kim Seok-hyang) at the Graduate School of General Studies, the 2022 Ewha Social and Economic Startup Academy (Chief Professor Lee So-hyun) held an opening ceremony on September 15 (Thursday) and held the orientation and the first common education session. Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy, which started in 2019 and marks its fourth anniversary this year, aims to foster female leaders in the social economy, providing education for students to cultivate social enterprise spirit and acquire skills necessary for start-ups. Systematic start-up education and mentoring, and hackathon sessions for undergraduate and graduate students at this school provide opportunities to understand the start-up process and strengthen start-up capabilities. In the academy, 39 talented people (16 teams) with innovative ideas were selected from various social issues, including the environment, the elderly, young adults, multicultural families, and abandoned animals.

The opening ceremony of the start-up academy was hosted by Professor Kim Min-seok (adjunct professor of the social and economic cooperation course). Kim Jung-tae, CEO of MYSC, was the first speaker in the common education session following the opening ceremony. Under the theme of "Startup & Social Entrepreneurship in the Great Transformation Era," "We need the courage to expand the lens (view) that looks at the world and try what we have missed so far by polishing it. You should always make a hypothesis on your own to see if the hypothesis has been reflected in start-ups and investments. Only through the process of reviewing, receiving feedback, and learning with the results, can we refine the engine of looking at the world, and this series of processes evolve entrepreneurship."

The 2022 Ewha Social Economy Startup Academy, which includes 10 times sessions in total, consists of various beneficial programs such as ▲ 4 common education sessions, ▲ 4 one-on-one mentoring sessions, and ▲ Hackathon and competitions. This year's academy will visit Hyundai Motor's Jeong Mong-koo Foundation's ‘OnDream Society’ for the Hackathon. In the competition, which is the last performance announcement, seven teams (Ewha Womans University Presidential Award (Grand Prize), Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency Award (Social Innovation Award), Fruit Sharing Foundation Chairman Award (Social Challenge Award), Underdogs Representative Award (Game Changer Award), Ewha Women's University Industry-Academic Cooperation Award (Creativity Challenge Award), Ewha Woman's University College of Formative Arts Award (Social Impact Award), and Ewha Woman's Economic Cooperation Award (Social Value Award)) will be given certificates, prize money, and prizes.
