The opening ceremony of a “Training Program for Korean Language Teachers in Russia,” organized by the Ewha Department of Korean Language and Literature (Project Manager: Hyung-yong Choi) and hosted by the Rostov-on-don branch of Korean Culture Centre (Director: In-young Jang) of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Russia, was successfully held in Korea on August 16 (Tue). The opening ceremony was attended by Hyung-yong Choi, a professor in the Korean language and literature department and also the project manager, Se-yeon Lee, a specialist at the Rostov-on-don branch of the Korean Culture Centre, and Professor Mozol Tatiana of Moscow State Linguistic University and eight students from Moscow State University and Moscow State Linguistic University.

Russia adopted Korean as an official foreign language course for elementary, middle, and high schools in 2020, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Russia is trying to include Korean in the second foreign language course for the college entrance exam. Considering the high interest in Korean language in Russia, it is essential to train local Korean language education experts in Russia, and Ewha Womans University has been supporting training for local teachers in Russia through cooperation with major Russian universities since 2021.

A total of eight trainees selected for this Korea visiting program stayed in Korea for seven days from August 16 (Tue) to 22 (Mon). This training program consists of various contents such as Korean language classes for students majoring in Korean at Russian universities, special lectures on Korean culture, and cultural experiences.

Professor Hyung-yong Choi mentioned, "We are happy to host a Korean language program for students from Russia despite the difficult international situation, and we hope that students who participated had a valuable time understanding Korean culture and language.”
