The Ewha Journalist Club , 2022 Regular General Assembly and the 22nd Ewha Journalist of the Year Awards

The Ewha Journalist Club (Chairman Moon So-young, deputy director of the Seoul Newspaper), a group of journalists from Ewha, held the Ewha Journalist Club 2022 Regular General Assembly and the 22nd Ewha Journalist of the Year Awards at Ewha Academy on May 25 (Wed).


The Ewha Journalist Club is a network of journalists from Ewha who are working in the media fields such as newspapers, broadcasting, and magazines, and it has been 25 years since its launch in 1997. More than 50 people including Ewha Academy Chairman Jang Myung-soo, Ewha President Kim Eun-mi, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Kim Jung-sun, Executive Vice President for External Affairs Shin Kyung-shik, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs Ryu Kyung-ha, Dean of Office of Planning and Research Jeong Jae-young, Vice chief of Office of Planning and Research Bae Hyun-ah, Secretary General of Ewha Academy Lee Deok-kyu, professors at Communication and Media Department gathered at the event to celebrate the winner of the Ewha Womans University Award and encourage members of the Ewha Journalist Club.



Since 2001, the Ewha Journalist Club has selected and awarded alumni journalists who have performed well in the media field every year, and Jeon Jae-sung, CEO of Magazine Plus (Foreign Language Education, 83) and Oh Yeon-seo, a political reporter of Hankyoreh (Food Science and Nutrition, 16), were selected for the 22nd Ewha Journalist of the Year.


CEO Jeon Jae-sung has worked in the media industry for more than 40 years as the publisher of women's monthly magazine Queen, eco-friendly monthly magazine Organic Life, and Internet food economy newspaper Organic Life, contributing to the development of media and magazine culture. She served as vice chairman of the 40th and 42nd Korean Magazine Association and received a presidential citation last year in recognition of her contribution in the magazine field.


Reporter Oh Yeon-seo, a reporter of social affairs, first reported about the "Nth Room" case with a series of reports of "sexual exploitation spreading on Telegram" in 2019, setting the stage for social awakening and conviction of digital sex crimes. With this report, she won the 2020 Amnesty International Press Award, the Journalist of the Month Award, the Gender Equality Media Award, the Korean Christian Press Award, and the Korean Journalist Award last year.


Ewha President Kim Eun-mi introduced Ewha alumni who have set the first records, including Korea's first general magazine, Korea's first women's newspaper, and Korea’s first woman CEO of newspaper company and encouraged, "The history of Ewha journalists is the history of Korean women journalists."


At the event, following the introduction of the presidents of the Ewha Journalist Club and the report on the settlement of account, there was also a time for friendship and networking of members of the Ewha Journalist Club. Jang Myung-soo, the former president of the Hankook Ilbo and the first woman lead writer of the JoongAng Ilbo, expressed her support and encouragement to junior journalists through a toast.
