Three Ph.D. students (So-yeon Kong, Hye-joo Kim, Ji-hyun Lee) majoring in Integrated Art Therapy at the College of Art and Design were selected as 2021 Humanities and Social Science Academic Research (Type B) supported by the National Research Foundation(NRF) and will receive 13 million won of research fund each. The "Humanities and Social Science Academic Research" project is supported by the Ministry of Education and the NRF to strengthen the foundation of academic research. It aims for creating a foundation for innovative growth by establishing a safe research environment so that researchers could endlessly continue research activities.

So-yeon Kong (Ph.D. in Convergence Art Therapy), who wrote "Analysis on Human Rights Sensitivity, Educational Needs and Learning Experiences of Art Therapists," expressed her desire to continue various studies based on academia. Kang Ae-ran, professor from Integrated Art Therapy, encouraged students saying, "It is fortunate to have a way for students to focus on research in a field where funding is relatively hard compared to science and engineering field." She also expected students to create valuable and meaningful studies that may help people in this pandemic era.

The Integrated Art Therapy Studies was newly created in 2020, aiming to nurture Art Therapy experts who can utilize various media of art and integrate within interdisciplinary studies through therapeutic features of art. Currently 20 students are enrolled in the doctorate program. Prior to this year’s achievements, the department has been successful in producing two students from the doctoral program to be selected as NRF scholarship recipients last year(2020, Type B).
