KIGEPE inaugurates Prof. Myung Sun Jang from Ewha Law School and Institute for Gender and Law as the 9th President

Last July 30th, Professor Myung Sun Jang of Law School and Institute for Gender and Law was appointed as the 9th President of Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education(KIGEPE). The institute was established under the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Professor Jang graduated from Ewha with bachelor’s degree in Law, master's degree in Constitutional Law. and a doctorate in Gender Law. She has been active as a field practitioner, including policy advisor and self-evaluation committee member of Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, National Assembly Legislative Support Committee Member, Director of Korea Gender Law Association, Director of Seoul Didimteo for Immigrant Women, Senior Researcher of Seoul Women and Family Foundation, Chairman of Seoul Welfare Governance Family subcommittee, and more. Moreover, she has been teaching lectures regarding gender law, and leadership for future women legal professions at Ewha.
Professor Jang has been devoting herself to various fields of women rights improvement such as women's legislation and policy development, finding women's jobs, expanding women's representation, and creating a safe environment for women laborers. Furthermore, through policy research and surveys on women's and children's human rights, she has contributed to legislations for the basic law on gender equality, guarantee of rights for the disabled, and prevention of sexual violence in schools.
The Korea Institute for Gender Equality and Education is based on Article 46 of the Gender Equality Act and was established in 2003 to carry out national responsibilities for gender equality education and promotion. President Jang's term of office is three years until July 29, 2024.
