Last July 12, the orientation for 2021 Invitation Training for Foreign Specialists of Korean  Language launched online. The program is a national project for fostering Korean language specialists, planned by the National Institute of Korean Language(NIKL). This year, 27 specialists worldwide from 15 nations will participate in the program.

"We are pleased to hold this training session at the Ewha, which is also responsible for nurturing students of a new era under a new vision,”  said Vice President Kim Jung-sun. “We hope that the school, which has been leading education on Korean language and culture, could deliver 30 years of knowledge regarding Korean education to worldwide specialists."

The 2021 program will be held for a total of six weeks from July 12th to August 21st in two courses to explore specialized areas as experts in Korean language education. The master's and doctorate-level joint training program(Week 1-3) aims to strengthen the educational capabilities of foreign Korean language experts and to ultimately develop an online curriculum on teaching methods related to Korean language education, education on content development, and cultural experience activities. The Ph.D.-level specialized training program will be held for a small number of Ph.D.-level experts, and will consist of seminars, special lectures, and personal research to strengthen the research capabilities of them. Foreign Korean language education specialists will be able to establish a network between themselves and strengthen their own capabilities while building the foundation for becoming educators and researchers who can contribute to the development of local Korean language education.

Based on last year's experience of successfully leading the first long-term online training session of Korean language education in a remote-learning environment, the lecturers decided to increase the number of participants this year, while planning a more specialized and systematic training session. In particular, this year, it will provide opportunities to experience culture on the web through pre-delivered material kits and will open a venue for communication to share the status of Korean language education circumstance in regions. Also, local seminars will promote autonomous and self-sustaining opportunities for local Korean education fields.

Dr. Hai-young Lee, professor of Korean Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies, said, "this training session will serve as an opportunity for participants to take a new look at Korean language and culture and develop their skills as educators living up to the New Normal era." She added that she is looking forward to seeing the participants as advanced Korean language educators who lead change and innovation through the sessions.
