Prof. Sang Mi Cho, won Commendation from Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor

Prof. Sang Mi Cho(Dean of School of Continuing Education/Director of Center for Arts & Culture Education) won Commendation from Seoul Metropolitan City Mayor for her contribution to ‘Community Social Security Association’ on Monday, December 21, 2020.


The commendation is given to people who contribute to communities working with Community Social Security Association. Prof. Cho, co-chairman of the Seodaemun-gu Community Social Security Association’, has contributed to the revitalization of public-private cooperation. She was awarded the commendation in recognition of her contributions to "establishing and monitoring system of community security plans" and "active consultation on Community Social Security Association activities.”


In particular, Professor Cho has continuously worked on the "spreading of social impact" and "creating social value" within communities. In 2015, she gave her "Local Social Welfare Theory" lecture as an on-site lecture as a part of "Project affiliated to universities to revitalize Sinchon area" and actively proposed solutions to local problems in Sinchon, Seodaemun-gu. In 2019, she was in charge of the “Social Economic Leader Course” supported by MOEL(Ministry of Employment and Labor) and successfully conducted education programs involving 18 universities, 30 departments, and 67 undergraduates, contributing to "building a collective impact among communities, universities and social economy." Social problems she noted include problems in local care, single mother housing, elderly drivers’ mobility, environmental problems, and convenience facilities for the disabled. 



She also led community-linked education by leading the establishment of the Graduate School’s Interdisciplinary Program of Social Economy at Ewha in 2017 and is striving to spread social problem-solving research. In particular, she has hosted three “Social Impact Forums” from 2019 to 2021 to share the achievements of convergent innovation toward diversity and inclusion and create a venue for connecting academia, field experts and the public.


Dr. Sangmi Cho is Professor at Department of Social Welfare at Ewha Womans University since 2007, where she teaches Understanding Social Enterprise and Corporate Social Responsibility, and Leadership & Management in Human Service Organizations. She is currently Dean of School of Continuing Education as well as Director of Center for Arts & Culture Education.


Her area of research is industrial & multicultural social work with a focus on workforce diversity and inclusion, social enterprise & corporate social responsibility and organizational effectiveness. Dr. Cho’s work has resulted in many publications, and numerous presentations at national and international conferences on topics related to multicultural education and program, social enterprise and organizational effectiveness. She has been a consultant to a variety of organizations for diversity management, strategic management and organizational change.


Her major awards include Outstanding Social Work Dissertation Award from the Society for Social Work Research (2007), The Scientific Award of Excellence 2011. Field of Organizational Effectiveness at American Biographical Institute(2011,) Marquis Who’s Who in the World(2013, 2015), The best Thesis award at Academic Conference on Social Economy, Award of excellent research teacher in Ewha(2015~2020).
