Global Korean culture education in the New Normal era starts with the Korea Culture Research Institute!

The Korean Culture Research Institute (Director Hae-Young Lee) holds a Korean Studies class for overseas youth. This “Korean Studies Class for Overseas Teenagers” is the first global Korean studies education conducted through real-time lectures. It is a Korean cultural education program for overseas youth who are the future leaders of the global era and this year, 26 high school students from Thailand will participate in this program and take lectures on Korean home, food, and popular culture.

Recently, interest in Korean pop culture such as K-drama and K-pop has been explosive among young generations around the world, but opportunities to access contents that can increase understanding of Korean society and culture are insufficient.

In this situation, the Korea Culture Research Institute planned this program to link the academic achievements accumulated so far as a University affiliated research institute beyond the framework of domestic universities, and to inspire foreign youth who are the leading players in the global era to understand Korean culture.

Through this program, overseas teenagers will be able to receive high-quality Korean studies classes locally. In particular, this program, which is conducted online in the New Normal era where non-face-to-face becomes everyday life, is expected to show new possibilities to overcome physical distance.

Hae-Young Lee (Professor of Korean Studies at Graduate School of International Studies), director of the Korean Cultural Research Institute, who is in charge of the program, said, “By participating in this program, students will be able to have a profound experience of accessing Korean culture, the foundation of Hallyu. We look forward to contributing to conveying culture and creating new cultures.”
