Professor Wonwoo Nam of the Department of Chemistry & Nanoscience, awarded the 3rd ‘Korea Toray Science Foundation Award

Professor Wonwoo Nam of the Department of Chemistry & Nanoscience was awarded the 3rd ‘Korea Toray Science Foundation Award on September 7 (Monday). 


The Korea Toray Group established the Korea Toray Science Foundation in 2018 to promote the development of science and technology and foster future talents. The Foundation annually selects the winner of the Korea Toray Science Foundation Award. The Award is given to researchers who have made outstanding achievements throughout their lives in Chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering. The prize is 100 million won. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the award ceremony will be held on October 22 (Tuesday) with only a minimum number of attendees, including the winners.


Professor Nam is a top-notch researcher who made the domestic research level to world-class one, and significantly contributed to the studies of oxygenase mechanisms and metalloenzymes in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry through biomimetic research using enzyme mimics. He has published a total of 360 papers in various renowned international journals, including one in <Nature>, two in <Science>, four in <Nature Chemistry>, one in <Nature Reviews Chemistry>, and 84 in <JACS>, the Journal of the American Chemical Society(ACS). He has served as Editorial Board Member for numerous academic journals; he is an Advisory Editorial Board Member for the <Accounts of Chemical Research> of the ACS, an Associate Editor of the <Chemical Science> of the Royal Society of chemistry, an Editor-in-Chief in <Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society> of the the Korean Chemical Society. In addition, he spares no effort to enhance the development and international status of Korea's chemistry as the heads of many international and domestic academic conferences. From the start of his career in Ewha in 1994, Professor Nam Won-woo has won many awards, including the Young Scientist Award (President's Award), the First Ewha Academic Achievement Awards in 2005, the Kyung-Ahm Award in 2007, and The Korea Science Award in 2015. Since 2003, he has been working on Creative Research Initiatives Program, greatly contributing to the research and development of Ewha.
