Alumni who majored in Architecture and Urban Systems Engineering at ELTEC College of Engineering were appointed as full-time professors at leading universities in the United States.

Ji-Hee Lee was appointed as a full-time professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in August 2020. After completing a Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering (currently called Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering) at the College of Engineering (2008) and Master's degree in architectural engineering (2010, Advisor: Jun-Sung Lee), this alumnus has accumulated three years of practical experience in a global construction company. She returned to and obtained a doctorate degree (2018, Advisors: Professors Jun-Sung Lee and Jung-Wook Son) from the same graduate school. After serving as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M University in the U.S. since 2019, she will become an assistant professor at Nevada State University starting in the spring semester of 2021.

After acquiring her doctorate, Lee has been selected as the research director (PI) of the national R&D project on two occasions while working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Architecture and Urban Systems Engineering and Texas A&M University, and has led the project. In addition to publication, she also participated as a translator of the academic book, 『Sustainable Buildings and Infrastructure: Paths to the Future (Routledge, 2012) 』. Currently, Lee is researching the automatic analysis of project risks through Natural Language Processing (NLP) of unstructured text data of construction projects, as well as the quantifying comfort level of the building based on human biological signal data.

Suwon Jang has been appointed as a full-time professor of Construction Management Technology at Purdue University in the U.S. from August 2020. Jang, who completed the Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering (currently called Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering) in the College of Engineering (2014), and Masters in Architectural Engineering in (2016, Advisors: Professors Jun-Sung Lee/Jung-Wook Son entered the PhD program at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a full-time scholarship student and obtained a doctorate degree. Jang is recognized for her competence and potential as a researcher and educator so that she was appointed as a full-time professor in the Department of Construction Management at Purdue University upon obtaining her doctorate in 2020. Jang served as a visiting research fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (Japan) during her doctoral course, published papers in a number of foreign journals during her master's and doctoral programs and wrote a chapter of an academic book called 『Urban Systems Design』(Elsevier, 2020). Currently, Jang is working on researches related to smart cities including energy modeling and building redevelopment through analysis of IoT (Internet of Things) sensor data, research on energy sharing systems between urban infrastructure, and smart construction management using advanced ICT (Information and Communications Technology) technology.

The achievements of Ji-Hee Lee and Suwon Jang in the field of construction, where women's advancement and activities have not been active so far, have been a good example of the excellence of Ewha education, and are expected to play a large role in future cooperative research between Korea and the United States.

In particular, Ji-Hee Lee's appointment to overseas universities, who obtained her bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees from Ehwa, remained a good precedent for graduates who obtained doctorate degrees in Korea. This can be seen as a meaningful achievement demonstrating that Ewha's master's and doctoral education system has sufficient competitiveness in the US and abroad.

The Department of Architectural and Urban Systems Engineering at our school is the only major in Korea to reorganize the school system by converging the field of urban systems from the existing architectural engineering major. Ewha's excellence in research and education in Korea as well as abroad is demonstrated by hosting two large national research projects, including the Housing Performance Improvement Research Center (27.8 billion won) and the Off-Site Construction Research Center (22.8 billion won).
