Ewha Womans University Museum’s Culture Connector Project II Is Selected as University Museum Promotion Support Project for Three Consecutive Years

Ewha Womans University Culture Connector Project II from Ewha Museum (President, Namwon Jang) has been selected to be the University Museum Promotion Support Project for three years in a row. This project is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Association of University Museums.

The first Ewha Womans University Culture Connector Project in 2019 was commemoration of the 133rd anniversary of Ewha’s foundation. Special exhibition Buncheongsaki (粉靑沙器) opened in May, followed by Media Facade: Bunchulsekcheong (噴出色聽), noted as a splendid transformation of the museum in autumn night. Hands-on educational program related to the exhibition called Ceramics Workshop: Buncheongsaki Experience With Families earned a favorable response by participants as they had lots of fun together.

Selected again this year, Ewha Culture Connector Project II offers a special exhibition titled Scenery of 19th Century’s Chosun Dynasty as well as online exhibition called Untact? Contact!! 19th Century Art Anywhere and Anytime at the same time for students and faculty at Ewha as well as local residents who are suffering from fatigue under COVID-19. Furthermore, experience program Alive Relics From the 19th Century! is going to give audience a three dimensional experience.

Ewha acted as a ‘cultural connector’ 70 years ago after the breakout of the Korean War. Ewha reopened the museum at Pilseung-gak which was a temporary campus in Busan back then and protected cultural assets, prevented exportation of these assets and tried hard to promote the excellence of Korean culture. Ewha museum continues to take on this role to do its best as a ‘cultural connector’ for students and faculty at Ewha and local people who are suffering with anxiety and depression from COVID-19 and social distancing, not only with online but also offline methods. Also, Ewha Womans University Museum will newly create 21st century cultural contents to share the value and meaning of the museum’s collection with many people, including students and faculty at Ewha and the public domestically and internationally.
