In January 1928, Ms. Stover, who oversaw physical education, transformed a tennis court into an ice skating rink by flooding it and allowing it to freeze, enabling students to enjoy winter sports.
Since the 1890s, Ewha has actively promoted physical education to enhance students' physical strength. Additionally, various sports programs were introduced to cultivate teamwork and leadership. These continuous efforts led Ewha to establish Korea’s first university Department of Physical Education in 1945, following the country's liberation.
