Ewha Womans University has received a generous donation of KRW 500 million from alumna Eun EeSun (Korean Painting, graduating class of 1996), designated for the Ewha New Era Fund to support innovations in AI education.

Per Ewha, the gift will be used to operate the university’s AI for All Ewha (AI4AE) program, to strengthen AI capabilities across the campus community, and to establish an AI-based educational infrastructure.

“I decided to make this donation with the hope of helping Ewha’s future generations cultivate essential AI capabilities in step with the changing times and of giving them a competitive edge to succeed on the global stage,” said Eun in a message delivered to Ewha.

Eun has a long history of supporting Ewha students with her gifts to the College of Art & Design Development Fund and various scholarships. “I have been trying to support not only the arts but other disciplines across Ewha in need of help or growth,” she added. “I share the AI4AE program’s vision of strengthening the AI capabilities of all students, and I want to help equip Ewha students with the best skills as they set out to compete globally.”

A graduate of the Department of Korean Painting in 1996, Eun has made sustained contributions to the university since 2019, providing scholarships and funding a renovation project for art workshop studios, as well as student exhibitions and other creative endeavors. One tangible example of her contribution to Ewha is the Maker’s Lab Digital Shop, a laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment located in Building C of the College of Art & Design.

Eun currently serves as the head of Koreanection, a cultural institution focused on promoting Korean culture and supporting rising artists. The organization also operates a residency program for artists and stages exhibitions, including the recent show titled, “Ever-Connected.”

Meanwhile, since President Hyang-Sook Lee took the helm last February, Ewha has been making headway towards innovating its curricula in preparation for the AI era. One major part of this ambitious initiative is the AI4AE program, which aims to revamp the existing curricula to ensure all students acquire essential AI skills and integrate them with their respective majors. The program is also spearheading efforts to cultivate interdisciplinary talent equipped with digital capabilities and AI literacy.

“Ewha is preparing for a great transformation in higher education in the AI era and is actively building the necessary educational infrastructure, as demonstrated by the AI4AE program, aimed at enabling all students to develop digital capabilities and AI literacy,” said President Lee in response to Master Lee’s donation pledge. “We will honor Alumna Eun’s valuable donation by doing our utmost to cultivate AI talent to lead the future.”
