The Ewha library of historical materials was founded in October 1989 in order to continuously research the long school history as our nation's first advanced educational institute for women and to faithfully arrange and preserve materials of school history. The history of Ewha has occupied an important part in the modern history of Korea and in the history of education and movement for women beyond the simple dimension of Ewha's history. Accordingly, publishing `Ewha's Seventy-Year History' `Ewha's Eighty-Year History', and 'Ewha's Centennial History' was estimated as the monumental merit in the national history and modern history of women's education, also collecting and preserving Ewha's historical materials, opening and providing materials to the public is an important assignment that has to continue in the future.

Ewha library of historical materials has taken over the task of school's historical materials partially carried out by Central library and Korean women's Auxiliary Organization, etc, integrated materials separately stored, picked up and arranged materials concealed at various organization of the school and storages and has been trying to locate and collect important materials, materials currently possessed are various document and photographs related to school history, souvenirs and relics, and the photographs related to school history. On the other hand, the Ewha history display room is prepared and open all the way during semesters in the Ewha Centennial Memorial Museum to help understanding of all Ewhaian and general public who are interested in Ewha's educational sprit and history.

In addition to permanent display, the library opened `The Ewha Alumni Writers Special Exhibition'(1993), `Special Exhibition Commemorating Ewha's 110 Years'(1996) respectively. In 1999, to commemorate the centennial of Dr. Helen Kim, special exhibition with the theme `Modern Education for women and Dr. Helen Kim' was held and the pictorial was published.

Ewha library of historical materials planned an exhibition under the theme of 'Ewha Which Led Korea and Will Lead the World' in the year 2000. It reviewed the status and achievements that Ewha has occupied in the post century's Korean educational history for women, and comprised of the content suggesting the new millennium's version.

The exhibition plan is intended to give present Ewhaian the pride and self-esteem as being Ewhaian, and future Ewhaian the dreams and expectations toward Ewha.

Also it assists the parts related to school's history to school and student events, and in the mean time provides the material to study history of Korean women, personal history,and the history of education.
