Introduction

The frequency of natural disasters including severe storms in the region is increasing along with the amount of damage. The Severe Storm Research Center of Ewha Womans University was established to reduce the damages of such natural disasters by offering a more precise forecast.
In spite of increased frequency of and damages from natural disasters, Korea's forecast models in the intial stages, secured preceding time, and capacity involving initial forecasts comes short of the technological standards of advanced nations.
SSRC seeks to combine the skills of the experts related to the school for further technological development and to nurture professionals. It is also striving to secure stereoscopic detection, analysis, and forecasting technologies related to natural disasters, through the research/education/technology exchanges with leading U.S. institutions with the most advanced technology in the field, including the University of Oklahoma's National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and NASA.
