Ewha Today is carrying out a series of interviews with our proud Ewha alumni from all walks of life. We call it Ewha DNA. The following is a summary of an interview with Yu Ji-eun (Department of Korean Language and Literature, graduated in 2011) at LINE Plus Corporation, a mobile application and Internet service company established in 2013.

Q. Hello. First, please tell us a little about yourself.
Hello, I am Yu Ji-eun from the incoming class of ’06 in the Department of Korean Language and Literature. After graduation, I received a master’s degree from the Division of Digital Media, and am currently working at LINE Plus as a service planner. My team is the VoIP planning team, which designs all services using voice and videophone technologies within the Line Messenger application.

Q. As a liberal arts major, have you experienced any difficulties working at an IT company?
Even though I graduated from the Korean Language Department, I was able to work on a variety of projects with the Division of Digital Media in graduate school. In fact, I had the opportunity to experience doing business at multiple companies. Those experiences were a great assistance to me when I entered the IT business.
When I got into the field, however, I realized that what’s really important is constant exploration of the company’s products, production process, and market conditions. I believe that proactive consideration of what value we should deliver to customers and what kind of technologies we should choose at that moment are imperative for a service planner.

Q. Could you tell us the most memorable project you have worked on or the one you are the proudest of?
An AR game service known as “Face Play” may be the most memorable project. It is a service that allows users to play games together over video calls, which is a long-term project that I have taken part in since I first joined Line. Luckily enough, I was assigned to this project shortly after it had been just begun and have experienced the entire process from ideation to development and launch.
The other thing that makes this project memorable is that it was the first global collaboration for me working with Chinese developers. Since it involved people using a different language, we went through a lot of trial and error, and I had to make various efforts to find more efficient communication methods.

Q. What is your idea of Ewha DNA?
I think it lets us feel that we are all going forward together, even though we might be physically separated. I believe Ewha gives us solidarity and strength together even while we are apart.
